My Elevator Pitch: Day 1 of #31dbbb

I’m only a day into Yeah Write’s 31 day challenge to build a better blog, and it’s got me thinking already. The first challenge was to write an elevator pitch — a quick explanation of what my blog is about. That couldn’t be too hard, right? I sat down and stared at the blank page for a while. Over the next couple of hours, I wrote down whatever came to mind. I pulled the sentences together, and this is what I came up with:

When you edit legal books all day, you want to write your own material at night. Whatever that might be. No apologies, excuses, or compromises. It might be about sports or cars. They’re what makes my life complete. It might be about what happened on Dexter last night. I could tell you about the meal I made last night. Or about the crazy person at the grocery store. My only indecision is what to write about next.

By the time I was done, I felt a lot better about my blog. You would think that writing an elevator pitch would narrow the focus of my blog. In fact, it did just the opposite. It confirmed my desire to write about whatever I want to write about. Let’s see what day 2 brings.

Thank you! I find myself steering clear of a topic because I worry about what others will think. I have to get out of that mindset and write what I want. This was a great way to realize that.

I love your confidence in the pitch — very attention-grabbing. The only suggestion I have is really a nit-picky one — you use “last night” to end two sentences — I think it would be even stronger if you edited one. Good work! Woo!

I love how you’re just like, “Hey, I’m going to write about whatever I want” but you say it in such a way that gives us an idea of what that “whatever” might be. Great pitch!
